Stepping Down as Chair of WOMAC

After nearly a decade of serving as Chair of Women on the Move Against Cancer (WOMAC), Georgia Fox is stepping down from the role.

WOMAC is a group of female volunteers working in the automotive industry.

It was established in 1979 and aims to continue the fight against cancer by supporting a variety of projects, searching for more effective treatments or improving the quality of life for cancer sufferers, their families and carers.

Commenting on her departure, Georgia said: “It was an honour to become a Patron of WOMAC back in 1988, and an even greater privilege to join the Committee in 2015.

I was incredibly proud to be announced as Chair in 2016, taking over from the wonderful Janet Wilkinson, whose commitment and leadership during her 12-year service was truly inspiring.

“During my time as Chair, we've supported 14 cancer charities - the 13th and 14th will be our 2025 charities.

Together with our generous supporters and the incredible Team WOMAC, we’ve donated just shy of £200,000 during my time as Chair.

This achievement is a testament to the passion, dedication and generosity of everyone involved.”

The tickets for WOMAC’s 2025 Fundraiser have just been released.

The event will take place at the Kia Oval on 17 June.

The international cricket ground will be a stage to bring together members of the automotive industry to raise funds for BRIGHT Cancer Care and Skcin.

Hosted on the Corinthian Roof Terrace, guests will be treated to breathtaking views of the iconic field.

With two fully-stocked bar areas, delicious food and plenty of space to network, it is the perfect setting for a memorable evening.

Reflecting on her time as Chair, Georgia said: “Looking back through my old notes as a Patron has brought back a wave of emotions, moments of pride and sorrow.

I’m reminded of the early years, when we made donations in memory of dear friends we’d lost to cancer including Carol Frater and Russell Bulgin.

“We helped fund two Marie Curie nurses and a beautiful garden at The Royal Marsden in memory of Lynda Shewan - my first ‘client mum’ who taught me it was perfectly okay to swear on shoots!

And sadly, we’ve also said goodbye to the much-missed Jon Morgan.

It was moving to see WOMAC come together to support Pancreatic Cancer UK in his memory.

“I’ll never forget my first cheque handover as Chair, an additional £10,000 to Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust on top of our £15,000 pledge which we were able to give them at the Party.

There were tears of joy that day, a powerful reminder of the impact WOMAC has on smaller charities that rely so heavily on support like ours.

“In 2020, just before the world shut down, we came together in support of Dimbleby Cancer Care, nominated by Sue Baker, my first ‘media mum’.

Sue, who was already unwell, came on to the stage and told us how fortunate she felt to see first-hand the care and compassion the centre provided.

Her words stay with me to this day, a reminder of the extraordinary strength people can show, and how powerful it is when our industry comes together for a cause.”

WOMAC is run by volunteers from across the automotive space including Friends, Patrons and a dedicated committee.

Georgia added: “None of this would have been possible without the incredible WOMAC Committee.

Their dedication and energy make our events not just successful, but truly meaningful.

Although I’m stepping back as Chair, I’ll still be at our events, proudly wearing my Patron hat and extracting money from guests with a smile!

“I have every confidence in the next Chair and look forward to supporting her as she takes the reins and guides WOMAC into its next chapter.

With heartfelt thanks to all who have supported WOMAC and me over the years, this journey has meant the world.”

Georgia will continue as Chair until the end of June and her successor will be announced in due course.
